NOBBTSC Membership Meeting Minutes June 6, 2008
Meeting called to Order by President Steven Melancon at 8:04pm, with 19 members
and 1 guest present.
Treasurer’s Report: Presented by Treasurer George Tresch. Motion to accept
report made by Vic V., and 2nd by Danny L. Motion passed.
Secretary’s Report: Minutes are located in the newsletter and on our website www.
bearsofneworleans.com . Motion was made to dispense with the reading of said
minutes, by Vic V. and 2nd by Bryan L. Motion passed.
Lieutenant’s Report: Mike and Shawn reported on the Bears Night Out at the
Bywater BBQ and the 3rd Friday beer bust on May 16th.
Media Updates: Tibby requested items for the newsletter, please be sent to him by
the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Eddie stated not much was new with the
website, and most members present disagreed! His work is great! And kudos to
Tibby for such a nice newsletter, too. (Eat your hearts out, other clubs around the
world!!!)
Old Business: The question was asked if the Bears wanted to participate in Dining
Out For Aids. Motion made by George Tresch and 2nd by Vic V. stated that “yes”
we did wish to participate as a Club. Motion passed. Eddie P. made a motion that
was 2nd by George Tresch, that we investigate going to Restaurante De Famile, as
we have in the past. Motion passed. We will be meeting at the restaurant on
Thursday, July 17th about 7pm.
Our ad has been placed in the New Orleans Alliance for Pride “PrideFest”
program.
New Business: Bylaws committee needs to set up a time, probably a Saturday
about 5pm for revision of said Bylaws. Danny L. voiced that he be added to the
committee, which was done. Date is under discussion.
George Tresch brought samples of the available merchandise for NOBBTSC. He
brought a t-shirt, a patch and a cap. See him after the meeting to place an order
for these items…and he will make arrangements to get them to you.
George Tresch presented NOBBTSC their membership plaque for 2008 for the SECC.
Bears Meeting and Beer Bust:
July 18, 2008 (the 3rd Friday of the month…because the 1st Friday is July 4th.)
August 1. 2008
Bears Night Out:
June 14, 2008…suggestion was made Tomatillo’s at 437 Esplanade Ave. The Club
agreed.
July 12, 2008…it was suggested we just use the Dining Out For Aids on the 17th as
our Bears Night Out for July…the Club agreed.
August 9, 2008 …bring suggestions for location to next meeting.
Board Meetings:
June 26th.
July 24th.
Special Events:
Pride Fest, June 28th & 29th. By Motion made by Gary N., and 2nd by Eddie P., that
the Club should walk in the Parade, at 4:30pm on Saturday, 6-28. Motion passed.
Bears Tubing Down the Bayou, July 19th on the Bogue Chitto River. See Shawn L.
for details.
Thursday, July 3rd, NOBBTSC is having a Beer Bust at JohnPaul’s Bar.
Bear Decadence:
Thursday, August 28th, Welcome Beer Bust at Rawhide,
Friday, August 29th, Southern Decadence Street Party, corner Elysian Fields and
Rampart Streets.
Saturday, August 30th, Sweet Olive B & B …Bears & Bubbles…12 -3pm. Sire Ursus
Contest at JohnPaul’s Bar.
Sunday, August 31st, Bear Breakfast at Phoenix Bar…Best Beard, Chest, Belly and
Butt contest.
Southern Decadence parade at 2pm.
Bear Dance at JohnPaul’s at ?pm J
Monday, September 1st, a day of rest from our Labours
Suggestion Box items: (response to the suggestion)
Spouses should be Board members. (We elect a member to serve as an officer, If
that member has a spouse, hopefully that spouse will assist our officer in his
responsibilities.)
Need to have a Bear Photo/Art Show at Cutter’s bar. (Cutter’s exhibits photos and
artwork highlighting a local artist.)
We need pictures of members/past officers etc. (I believe this must reflect the
announcement that the new Lieutenants will redo the trophy case. Nice
suggestion. )
I was told that what I thought was an exclusive membership pin was actually a
friendship pin that could be bought and given to anyone. Members should be given
something that is exclusive for members. (Yearly pins are given to members only.
Member tees are sold to members only.)
Two new members were welcomed: Charles T. and Lucas A.
Birthdays and anniversaries were announced.
