NOBBTSC Membership Meeting Minutes
6-01-07

Meeting was called to Order by President Steven Melancon at 8:05PM with 27
members present.

Secretary’s Report:  Minutes of the previous meeting can be found in the Club
newsletter or on-line on our website www.bearsofneworleans.com or www.
neworleansbears.com .

Treasurer’s Report:  Presented by Treasurer George Tresch.  Report was accepted
by motion made by Vic V. (everyone looked at him…so he made it) and 2nd by Danny
LeCompte.

Lieutenant’s Report:  Reported by Tibby T. and Bryan L.  Bears Night Out for May at
Jaeger’s House of Seafood was discussed.  The 3rd Friday Beer Bust was
discussed, and it was reported a 50/50 raffle was held for Mark Steinbauer, current
Mr. LA Leather, to help send him to the IML contest in Chicago over Memorial Day
weekend.

Media Updates:  Tibby T., editor of the newsletter:  Tibby mentioned that the
owners/publishers of “A Bear’s Life” have sent 6 cases of their magazine to be given
away at the upcoming Pride event at the end of the month.
Eddie P., webmaster: Reported that the website had received a sad email.
Mr John David “Jay” Taylor, Mr LA Leather 1995 died on May 14th at the VA Hospital
in Biloxi, MS of heart failure.  He was only 47. It is a great loss and he will be missed.

Old Business:  
A review of the upcoming Bon Appetite event the NO/AIDS Taskforce is hosting was
presented.  Fundraisers can be held at any time and proceeds should be brought to
the “after party” on June 16th.  A motion was made to host a 50/50 raffle at tonight’s
beer bust and to collect donations at our June Bear’s Night Out next Saturday.  Motion
made by Vic V. and 2nd by Earl D.
Motion carried.

A reminder was presented that the Lords Of Leather are hosting a “Hot Daddy”
contest on Saturday, June 16th at 7pm.  Location will be the Marigny Theatre.  
Tickets are $15.

New Business:
Wayne C. made the following 3 motions:
To eliminate the possibility of “exchanging” cups at our beer busts, the purchaser’s
hand should be stamped.  Motion 2nd by Hak K.. Motion carried.
For accuracy’s sake, two officers of the Club should count the proceeds after each
event and itemize that tally.  2nd by Hak K. and motion carried.
Again for accuracy’s sake, cups should be counted at the beginning and the end of our
beer bust, to tally against the monies received, and reported to the Club monthly.  2nd
by Vic V. and motion carried.

President Steven announced the following “helps” that Clint of the Phoenix Bar has
granted our Club:  1) the “closet” behind the bar will be fitted with door (by
Tibby…who else?) to store some of our supplies.  2)  the sound system is going to be
repaired, so we can have music during our Beer Busts. (Thanks to Eddie P., we have
music tonight J). 3)  Fans or A/C will be provided to help keep down the heat on the
patio where we hold our meetings.  (What?...you don’t think Bears create heat???...
what are you?  Nutz?)

Chris H., one of our members, will be in a car race tomorrow 6-02.

Thursday, June 14th many of the Bears will be attending “Sugar Babies” at Le Petit
Theatre in conjunction with the Krewe of Armeineus fundraser.  Tickets are still
available.

The New Orleans Gay Men’s Chorus will be presenting concerts on Friday, June 22nd
and Saturday, June 23rd .  More details are on the website.

June 24th will be this year’s Pride Fest, from 12n to 5pm at Washington Square Park
on Elysian Fields Ave.  NOBBTSC will be hosting a booth to provide information about
the Bear and Bear Trapper lifestyle.

June 29th is a 5th Friday.  A BLOCK party will be held.  By our calculations, it should
be the Lords of Leather’s turn to host the event.  Location will be forthcoming.

July 19th is the NO/AIDS Dining for Life event.  More details will be available on the
website and at the next meeting

The NO/AIDS Walk will be held on September 16th at the Audubon Park.  NOBBTSC
has historically hosted a “water” station for the walk.

NOBBTSC annual Banquet and Sire Ursus contest will be held August 31st at the New
Orleans Leather Company, next door to Cowpoke’s on St Claude Avenue.  
Committees will be set up to help get ready on Thursday evening, Friday afternoon,
and clean up on Saturday morning.  The sign up lists will be available at the end of the
meeting.  Ticket price has been set at $25.  This will include a “beer/soda” bust.  
Tickets are limited (seating for 70 to 75), so get your’s early.  

On Sunday, September 2nd, NOBBTSC will be again hosting the Best Bear Beard,
Chest, Belly and Butt contest at the Phoenix Bar.  More detail later.


Birthdays and Anniversaries were announced.

Member’ Announcements:
Ernest T. wishes to thank everyone for the success his “buzz-cut” fundraiser was last
Friday.  He has decided to move this event to the 3rd Fridays to occur during our Beer
Busts.

Wayne C. mentioned that this weekend is the “Back to the Beach” event in Kenner, by
the Treasure Chest Casino.  It usually is a fun event.

George T. announced that the Krewe of AmonRa will be hosting a “Gay Pride
Masquerade Prom” on June 23rd at the Marigny Theater at 8PM. See George for
tickets for this event.
