NOBBTSC Membership Meeting Minutes 2-02-07
Meeting called to Order by President Steven Melancon at
8:09PM with 16 members present and 4 guests (who
then joined the Club after the meeting.)
Minutes for the January 4th meeting can be found in the
Newsletter (except someone forgot to include that page
in the Newsletter…ooops) and on the website, which is
www.neworleansbears.com .
The Treasurer’s Report was read by President Steven, in
the absence of Treasurer George Tresch, who was at
rehearsal for his Krewe’s Bal Masque to be held 2-03.
The Lieutenant’s Report was read by Vice President
Danny Lecompte in the absence of our Lieutenant. The
January Bears Night Out at the Ho Ho’s Super Buffet
was reviewed.
The Vice President’s Report was given by the Vice
President Danny. He read a letter received by the Club
from the Project Lazarus, thanking our Club for the
donation made to them at our Christmas Party. (Letter
attached.)
A Media update was presented by Website officer,
Eddie Pujol. Eddie presented the idea of the Club
adopting a Black Bear at the Audubon Zoo, for an annual
fee of $75. Eddie presented this as a motion, which was
2nd by Wayne C. and motion was carried. Wayne then
made a motion to do this every year. This was 2nd by
Danny L.
This motion carried. (See attached letter…it is already a
done deal.)
The idea of making NOBBTSC a legal entity was
discussed. Eddie made a motion the options should be
explored by the Board and report back to the Club. This
motion was 2nd by Wayne C. Motion carried.
President Steven reminded all present that all Club dues
are now supposed to be in the hands of our Treasurer.
All Members who have not paid their dues by March 1,
2007, will be removed from the Roster. A final reminder
letter will be mailed to each member who has failed to
pay these dues.
By action by the Board, the Lieutenant position has been
filled. Three members volunteered. Of the three, two
were disqualified, since the Bylaws require all Officers to
have been a member of the Club for at least 6 months.
Our new Lieutenant for 2007, will be Tibby T., our
Newsletter editor.
In response to requests from some members, the agenda
for our Meetings will be posted on the website.
Hopefully, this will be an interactive agenda, where
visitors can leave comments or make suggestions.
During this past month, 3 members of the Club traveled
to Baton Rouge and Registered Trade names for our
Club. Those registered are “New Orleans Bear and Bear
Trapper Social Club,” “Bear Decadence,” and “Bear
Decadence of New Orleans.” When the Club becomes a
Legal Entity, the Club will become the Owner of these
three names.
Our new cups for the Beer Bust have arrived. They have
our Club logo on one side, and future Mardi Gras dates
on the other side, starting with the year 2008.
Danny L. reported that our Club has an opportunity to
join the Krewe of Armeinius Fundraiser. The “dress
rehearsals” for plays at the La Petit Theatre du Vieux
Carre are reserved for the Krewe. They have offered us
tickets for these events, and will split the proceeds for
any tickets the Club should sell. The tickets cost $30
each. Scheduled plays are: March 1st, “Tunes,” and
June 14th, “Sugar Babies.” Feel free to contact Danny if
you want to reserve one of these tickets.
Bears’ Night Out for February will be Feb. 10th, at Chevy’
s on Manhattan Ave on the West Bank at 7pm.
The Club is hosting a parade picnic on February 11th, at
the corner of St. Charles Avenue and Josephine Street at
about 11am. About 22 people are planning to attend at
this point. Come on out, make it a fun time.
Security for Mardi Gras Balls:
Feb. 3rd, Krewe of AmonRa at the Longshoreman’s
Union Hall on Tschoupitoulas.
Feb. 11th, Krewe of Satyricon at the Sugar Mill on
Convention Center Blvd.
Feb. 17th, Krewe of Armeinius at the Alerio Center on the
WestBank Expressway.
On Feb. 16th, the Night of the Black Mask will be held
outside our home bar, The Phoenix, 941 Elysian Fields
Ave. NOBBTSC will be assisting with this event by
selling canned beer. Please plan to attend. This is a
HOT EVENT!!!
A reminder was given about NOBBTSC Anniversary
party. It is being held April 14th at George Tresch’s
home. Further information on this event as it becomes
available.
The Club is hosting another Bake Sale on April 1st, (no
foolin’) at 9am, hopefully in front of Cutter’s Bar on
Franklin. More info on this at a later date.
The Club is interested in hosting a Crawfish Boil on April
21st. Location is still under consideration. Time would
be about 1pm to 4pm. Donations of $5 for members and
$10 for members. This event would be open to all clubs
and friends in New Orleans.
Other possible events for the Club: 1) a zoo trip (parents
day for our adopted bear) 2) New Orleans Museum of Art
trip…it is free in the month of Febr.
The NOBBTSC Banquet and Sire Ursus 2007 Contest
was mentioned again. Date: August 31st, Time: 7pm to
10pm. Cost: still being discussed. Location: the
Friendly Bar on corner of Marigny and Chartres Streets.
The next Board meeting will be held Feb. 27th at 7pm at
George Tresch’s house. All members are invited to
attend.
Anniversaries and Birthdays were announced.
Member announcements: Bears & Bubbles is being held
Monday (Lundi Gras) Feb. 19th at the Sweet Olive Bed
and Breakfast. These are fun events.
Paul S. made a motion that the Board deal with the
legalization of the Club and report back to the Club. This
motion was 2nd by Wayne C. In light of this motion,
Eddie and Wayne removed their earlier motion of the
Board exploring the options and reporting back to the
Club at our next meeting. It was further suggested the
Club should get a copy of Robert’s Rules of Order.
