NOBBTSC Membership Meeting April 4, 2008
Called to Order at 8:03PM by President Steven Melancon, with 24 members present.
Monthly Reports:
President’s Report: We now have a “suggestion box” (actually a “can”) that any member can put his
suggestions in. This will help to convey member’s requests and also serve to remind Officers of
what verbal requests might have been made. Please put suggestions into the box (can) instead of
verbally mentioning it to an Officer during the Beer Bust.
Since our last meeting, at which we became aware of one Lieutenant position being vacant, our
other Lieutenant, Jeff, has resigned due to military obligations. We wish Jeff well, and hope he
comes back to us soon. We have asked for members to come forward if they are interested in
either of these two positions. We received several enthusiastic candidates, even some who are
not yet eligible according to our bylaws.
The Board, by majority vote, has filled our two vacancies. I am excited to announce our two new
Lieutenants: Shawn L. and Michael L. (Applause followed this announcement).
Treasurer’s Report was read by President Steven and Vice-President Bryan, in the absence of
George Tresch, Treasurer.
Secretary’s Report: Minutes may be found in our News Letter and on our website www.
bearsofneworleans.com . A Motion to dispense with the reading of the minutes was made by Vic V.,
and 2nd by Bryan L.
Lieutenant’s Report: presented by VP Bryan L, and Lieutenants Shawn L. and Michael L. Events
covered were Bears Night Out on March 15th at Jaeger’s Restaurant with thanks to Fred and
Donald for arranging it; the Bake Sale/Rummage Sale on March 16th (at which we raked in a whole
bunch of funds); Cutter’s 3rd Anniversary party and the St Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17th; the
3rd Friday Beer Bust; the Gay Easter Parade; and the Parent’s Adoption Day at the Zoo on April 2nd.
Media Updates: Newsletter: Tibby encourages anyone to write an article for the Newsletter, and
reminded all the deadline is the 3rd Wednesday of each month (in this case, by April 16th…cuz you
should have your taxes done by that point).
Website: Eddie had no comment (!!!!!...imagine that).
New Business:
We are pursuing legal counsel for advice on options to becoming a legal entity. We are just
meeting with a lawyer at this point.
Steven has been approached by several members about having our meetings in a different venue,
ie: not a bar. Suggestion has been made we hold our meetings at the house (where we have our
Xmas Party) at Lazarus House. Discussion followed this suggestion. Steven asked the members to
think about it and we can vote on this possibility at the next meeting.
The Lords of Leather have requested and the Board of NOBBTSC has agreed to switch the 2nd and
3rd Friday Beer Busts in October of 2008. The 3rd weekend is when the Lords will be hosting their
Leather Weekend and having the Mr Louisiana Leather contest.
Project Lazarus is having their fundraiser Bon Appetite again this year. It will be held on June
14th. The method for this is to host dinner parties (or Bears Night Out) and collect monies. The
parties do not have to be held on the 14th, however.
Bear Watch 08 is occurring in Galveston, TX., on the weekend of May 16th. Their club has
requested NOBBTSC host a cocktail party for them during this event in exchange for them hosting
one here for us during Southern Decadence.
American Brotherhood Weekend, July 11th-13th being held here in New Orleans. The organizers
have asked NOTTBSC if they would like to become a sponsor.
The Krewe of Armeinius is hosting their fundraiser atthe play Annie at the Le Petite Theatre on
April 10th.
Charles from the Krewe of Armeinius was present at our meeting as mentioned their Bal Masque is
being held February 21, 2009. The title is “Men in Tights”. He would like as many volunteers from
NOBBTSC as possible, some for Security, as usual, and some more to appear on stage in tights.
Mobile, AL., is holding their Gay Pride Weekend April 4th, 5th and 6th. If possible, plan to attend
and show them our support.
An advertisement has been received from the New Orleans Alliance for Pride, requesting any
business or organization interested in putting an ad in their program to please notify them. The
print of this email was given to President Steven. A Motion was made by Danny L. and 2nd by
Jimmy W. that we do put an ad in this program with size and amount spent being left to the Board.
Motion passed.
Old Business:
Bylaw revisions: Item #3: Election of Officers: proposed changes (copy attached to Minutes), After
much discussion, Motion was made by Wayne C. and 2nd by Danny L. (and Vic V.) to leave section
A as it is. Motion passed. A second Motion was made by Wayne C. and 2nd by Jimmy W. that this
section stay as it is for at least one year. Motion passed.
The Club has been trying to get in touch with Solitaire to provide her with items for her prize chest
