NOBBTSC Membership Meeting Minutes May 2, 2008

Meeting called to Order by President Steven Melancon at 8:05pm with 17 members present.

Revision of Bylaws:  
ITEM #4 – ELECTED OFFICERS AND THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES:

A).   PRESIDENT:
1)  Provides leadership to officers and the club.
2)  Prepares the agenda for and presides over all general club meetings.
3)  Prepares the agenda for and presides over all Board meetings.
4)  Orders or delegates the ordering of all club materials after appropriate
approval by either general membership or the Board.
Periodically verifies the club inventories with the Treasurer.
Delegates special function duties to officers, and/or event chairpersons.
Monitors the performance of other officers.
Official representative of the club and the primary contact for inter-club relations.
Monitors all donations to the club and ensures those donations are entered into club inventories.
Acknowledges receipt of donations to the donor(s) with the assistance of the Secretary.

B).  VICE-PRESIDENT:
1)  Assists President as necessary.
2)  Assumes the responsibilities of the President in the absence or incapacity
of the President.
Maintains order at all club meetings.
Assists the President with the club inventories.
Assists the President in the monitoring of other club officers’ performance.

C).  SECRETARY:
1)  Updates and maintains the club’s membership roster including dates of
membership, addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses of all members.
This information is collected with assistance of, and provided to the
Editor/Media Officer.
Assists the President in preparing all meeting agendas and club correspondence.
Maintains club history, including bylaws, rules, correspondence and scrapbook.
Takes minutes of all club meetings and maintains same.
Coordinates press release materials with the President, the Editor/Media Officer and the
Webmaster.
Maintains the Post Office box.

D).  TREASURER:
1)  Maintains the club’s bank accounts and club monies.
2)  Maintains and updates the club’s inventories.
3)  Prepares and presents a monthly Treasurer’s report.
4)  Tracks, documents, and reports on all club monetary transactions
monthly.        
Supervises the collection of funds for all club events and is responsible
for coordinating backup fiscal assistance for those times when he cannot be present, or when an
event spans a extended period.
Maintains a record by name of all member’s payments, including but not
limited to dues, payments for special events and functions, and for the sale of club paraphernalia.
Prepares a club year end audit and inventory report for the incoming
Board.

E).  LIEUTENANTS: (Number to be elected:  1-25 members =1; 26-50 members =2; 51-75
members = 3; etc.)
1)  Acts as liaison between the general membership and the club officers.
2)  Plans and organizes social events.
3)  Provides budget for event planning.
4)  Plans fund-raising events.
5)  Organizes publicity for club events, with assistance of the Editor/Media
Officer and Webmaster.      
Maintain club display case.

Motion was made by Vic V. and 2nd by Earl D. to accept these changes in their entirety.
After discussion, a vote was held and Motion passed.  
It was also mentioned, there is a document called Code of Ethics that was added to, but
separate from the Bylaws in April of 2004.  Copies will be made available to those wishing them
at our next meeting.
Motion was made by Juan C. and 2nd by Wayne C. to set up a committee to resume revising the
Bylaws and then present them to the Club in total. After discussion and vote this Motion was
passed.  President Steven then asked for volunteers for this committee.  This committee will be
comprised by the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the following members:
Shawn L., Wayne C., Eric M., Andre M., and Hak K..

Monthly Reports:
Treasurer’s Report was presented by President Steven Melancon, in the absence of George
Tresch, Treasurer.  Report accepted by Motion of Vic V,. and 2nd by Bryan L., and an
affirmative vote.

Secretary’s Report:  Minutes are located in the news letter and can soon be found on our
website www.bearsofneworleans.com .  Reading of the Minutes was suspended by Motion made
by Vic V., and 2nd by Bryan L., and an affirmative vote.

Lieutenant’s Report: Presented by Lieutenants Mike L., and Shawn L..  Discussed were the Beer
Bust after our last meeting, Bears Night Out, the 3rd Friday Beer Bust, and the NOBBTSC 14th
Anniversary picnic.  We had 52 people at this event.  Special thanks were given to George
Tresch for the use of his home and yard, and to Top Chefs, Tibby T. and Sonny C., for the
excellent job of cooking.

Media Updates:…please submit items to Tibby by the 3rd Wednesday of each month for the
newsletter.  The website…is fabulous, as usual.

Old Business:
-A proposal was made to hold our Business meetings at another location, such as Lazarus
House.  Motion was made by Vic V., and 2nd by Earl D., to keep our meetings at the Phoenix
Bar.  After discussion, Motion passed.
-Bon Appétit, a fundraiser for Lazarus House is being held June 14, 2008.  The question: do we
as a Club, wish to participate.  This is the same night as our upcoming Bears Night Out for the
month of June.  A Motion was made by Vic V., and 2nd by Bryan L., that NOBBTSC not
participate this year.  By a vote of 6 to 3 (with many abstentions) Motion carried.

New Business:
-The possibility of a tubing trip on the Bogue Chitto River was announced.  Anyone wishing to
participate, please contact Lieutenant Shawn L..
-Our July meeting falls on the Fourth of July.  Should our business meeting be moved to the 3rd
Friday Beer Bust (July 18th)?  After discussion, it was decided yes. JULY MEETING WILL BE
JULY 18TH ALONG WITH THE 3RD FRIDAY BEER BUST! We will still have a Beer Bust at the
Phoenix Bar on July 4th.
-We are still awaiting the dates and locations for Dining Out For Aids.
-The Lords of Leather held an appreciation party on April 27th.  The winner of their 50/50 raffle
(Paul, co-owner of JohnPaul’s) donated his winnings of $68 to NOBBTSC.
-At the Mint on Esplanade Ave, there is a Napoleon exhibit, that will be there through the month of
August.  Anyone wishing to gather and go see it, contact Lieutenant Mike L..
-It was suggested, that NOBBTSC rent a bus and go to the Angola Rodeo.  It will occur again
every weekend in the month of October.  More on this later.

Bears Night Out:
-May 10th – Bywater Bar-B-Que
-June 14th – it was suggested by Motion made by Hak K., and 2nd by Earl D., that we go to the
Water Park outside Baton Rouge on this day, and attend the concert that night given by Chris
Caigle.  Price for tickets - $35, and $5 off if you bring an empty Coke can. After discussion,
Motion was defeated.  Decision of location for this BNO will be at the June meeting.
-July 12th – open for discussion.

Bear Decadence 2008:
Thursday, August 28th Welcome Beer Bust at Rawhide 8PM ‘til 10PM-ish
Friday, August 29th  Southern Decadence street party outside the Phoenix Bar.  NOBBTSC will
be selling canned beer at that event, also selling hamburgers outside JohnPaul’s.
Saturday, August 30th  Sweet Olive Bears and Bubbles 12noon ‘til 3PM
                   Sire Ursus contest and dinner at JohnPaul’s 8PM ‘til 11PM
Sunday, August 31st  Breakfast at the Phoenix Bar 10AM until….Best Bear Beard, Best Bear
Chest, Best Bear Belly and Best Bear Butt contest.
            Southern Decadence Parade 2PM
                 Bear Dance at JohnPaul’s 9PM until…$5 to get in…$10 for VIP
                  pass included beer bust and food.
Monday, September 1st Labor Day…day of recuperation.

Other Events:
Lords of Leather are having a Cinco de Mayo poor party May 4th (day early) 2-6pm
Marigny Theatre is presenting “Someone Bought The House On The Island”  If you go and say
you are a member of the Club…a donation will be made to the Club.
Louisiana State Gay Rodeo Association is hosting a beer bust at CowPokes.
Halloween 25 Lazarus House benefit,  October 23rd – 26th.
LSGRA is hosting the Gay Rodeo Association convention here in New Orleans Halloween
weekend.

Birthdays and Anniversaries were announced.

Meeting adjourned at 9:10pm by Motion of Vic V., and 2nd by Andre M. and a favorable vote.
